With finals hopes on the line and three French favourites playing their farewell match, the Rebels Women turned it on in a high-stakes clash against Kyogle. Cohesion, commitment, and a few moments of magic saw the team deliver one of their best performances of the season.

It was a bruising afternoon in Ballina for both our Women’s and Men’s First Grade sides. The Rebels showed grit, heart, and flashes of brilliance—but were ultimately outmuscled by a top-class Seahorses outfit. From a heroic try-saving chase by Evie Eastwell to a relentless defensive shift from Jude, there was no shortage of spirit. But the scoreboard told a tougher story. The Rebels men took care of business with dominant wins over Lismore City, while our women’s team faced a top-class side and played with heart to the final whistle. The Rebels headed north to Casuarina for a wild day of weather and rugby. The women’s team fought to a gritty 5–5 draw in a physical clash marked by injuries and fierce defence. The men’s first grade side delivered a gutsy, scrummaging masterclass—only to be heartbreakingly edged out 35–33 in the final seconds.

The Rebels’ trip to Casino was a tale of two challenges—too few players for the men, too many for the women. A depleted men’s side was forced to forfeit second grade and reshuffle first grade, while the women’s squad struggled to match the physicality of a tough Casino outfit, going down 32–5 despite a try from captain Shyanne Appleby.

First grade pushed Casino all the way in a gritty contest, leading deep into the second half thanks to tries from George Garnett and Sam Valpy and accurate kicking from Jay Manson. But late penalties proved costly, with the Bulls sneaking a last-minute try to steal the win, 27–24.

A rain-soaked Shultz Oval set the scene for a dramatic Saturday. Second grade was abandoned after a serious injury, and first grade waded into trench warfare against an unbeaten Ballina. A penalty try, fierce scrummaging, and a captain’s near-heroics weren’t quite enough.

Despite a forecast of 75mm of rain, Shultz Oval turned it on for a cracker of a Thursday night clash. The Rebels were red hot under the lights, putting on a show for the home crowd with a dominant 59–0 win over Lismore. Nine tries, a rock-solid scrum, and not a single card in sight—champagne rugby at its best.

Sunshine, big hits, and bigger moments! Despite a wild preseason of cancelled trials and sodden fields, the Rebels burst into 2025 with three cracking home games and a huge crowd to match. From a nail-biting win in the Women’s 10s, to a gutsy 2nd Grade victory, and a hard-fought 1st Grade battle, there was no shortage of passion on the paddock.
